Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center dedicated
This squalid 57 square blocks of poverty, homelessness and crime also houses the city’s highest concentration of children (approximately 3,500), immigrants, SRO hotels (single room occupancy) liquor stores, prostitutes and strip clubs. Perhaps the attendance by more than 800 community activists, local politicians and neighborhood residents, signified just how important the new center will be to the Tenderloin and San Francisco.


Oakland dedicates new facility
It all started as a simple promise of soup, soap and salvation. The Salvation Army opened its doors to the Bay Area 125 years ago—in 1883—and began to serve people in need across Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose. As the area population grew, so did the need. Today, the promise has grown into something much bigger.


Territory gathers for Bible conference
Spiritual refreshment, renewal and revival saturated the hearts of the more than 500 officers, soldiers and friends gathered at the Asilomar conference grounds for the inaugural Western Bible Conference, June 29-July 5.


WBC-putting the pieces together
WBC brought the territory together in an unprecedented way—building a cohesive Western Territory—connecting people from far and near with a united vision. Ultimately, WBC was about each individual’s relationship with God, and how we come together as The Salvation Army to carry out God’s mission and build his kingdom in today’s world.
